ACDF stands for Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion. This surgery removes a slipped or ruptured disc in the neck, and can alleviate the paid of a pinched nerve if other treatments do not work.
During an ACDF, Dr. Sahni removes a slipped or ruptured disc in your neck to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by a pinched nerve.
Dr. Sahni approaches from a small incision in the anterior (front) of the neck to reach the disc, which is less dangerous to the spinal cord and nerves than approaching from the back. After excising (removing) the disc, the surgeon places a bone graft and fuses it with the vertebre above and below the excised disc to keep the vertebrae from collapsing or rubbing together.
